Suspended Vaishnodevi yatra to resume on Sep 14: Board

Jammu, Sep 12: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, which was suspended for 19 days, will restart on September 14. The pilgrimage was temporarily halted due to severe weather and necessary track maintenance.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board announced today that the yatra will resume on Sunday, September 14, following a 19-day suspension.

The suspension was put in place after a tragic landslide on August 26, triggered by heavy rains, killed 34 people, most of whom were pilgrims, near the Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari.

The Shrine Board thanked pilgrims for their patience and understanding, stating that the resumption of the yatra is a sign of “collective faith and resilience.” The Board also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and sanctity of the pilgrimage.

To ensure pilgrim safety, authorities have advised devotees to carry valid identification and to follow designated pathways. RFID-based tracking will remain mandatory for all pilgrims. For real-time updates and other services, devotees are directed to visit the official website.

In response to the landslide, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who serves as the chairman of the Shrine Board, has established a three-member committee to investigate the causes of the August 26 tragedy. The committee is led by Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Department of Jal Shakti, and includes Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and Inspector General of Police, Jammu, B.S. Tuti. The committee will submit a comprehensive report to LG Sinha.
