“Bhool Chuk Maaf” Film Review:

Bhool Chuk Maaf directed by Karan Sharma, is a Hindi-language fantasy romantic comedy that blends small-town charm with a time-loop twist. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film released in theaters on May 23, 2025, following a legal tussle over its release format.

Story set in the vibrant city of Varanasi, the narrative follows Ranjan (Rajkummar Rao), a hopeless romantic who secures a government job to marry his love, Titli Mishra (Wamiqa Gabbi). However, their wedding preparations take a bizarre turn when Ranjan finds himself trapped in a time loop, reliving the haldi ceremony repeatedly, while Titli remains unaware of the anomaly.

Rajkummar Rao delivers a performance reminiscent of his earlier roles in films like Stree, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi and Bareilly Ki Barfi, portraying the earnest small-town lover with finesse. Wamiqa Gabbi lives up to her character’s name adding to a fresh presence to the screen. Director Karan Sharma’s attempt to infuse the romantic comedy with a fantastical element offers a unique premise, though the execution has done nicely.

The film’s soundtrack, composed by Tanishk Bagchi with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, features recreated versions of popular tracks like “Chor Bazaari” from Love Aaj kal and “Waalian” by Harnoor, retitled as “Koi Na” . While the music adds a nostalgic touch, it hasn’t significantly impacted the film’s popularity. Cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee captures the essence of Varanasi, providing a vibrant backdrop to the unfolding drama.

Upon release, Bhool Chuk Maaf garnered positive reactions from audiences, with many praising the chemistry between the lead actors and the heartwarming nature of the story.

Bhool Chuk Maaf offers a blend of romance, comedy, and fantasy, set against the culturally rich backdrop of Varanasi. While the film presents an intriguing premise and commendable performances, it falls short in delivering the depth and originality that could have set it apart in the genre. It’s a light-hearted watch for fans of romantic comedies, but may not leave a lasting impression on those seeking a more profound cinematic experience.
