Army Jawan killed, massive manhunt underway in Udhampur encounter

Jammu, Sep 20: A soldier who was wounded during a fierce gunfight with terrorists in the Seoj Dhar forest of Udhampur district last evening has died from his injuries, officials said today.

The exchange of fire began when a joint search team from the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) encountered terrorists in the Dudu-Basantgarh area, which lies on the Udhampur–Bhaderwah border. The soldier was immediately taken to a hospital but sadly did not survive.

Following the initial contact, security forces established a cordon that was maintained throughout the night. The large-scale search operation resumed at daybreak with officials stating that two to three terrorists are believed to be hiding in the dense forest.

Reinforcements, including drones and sniffer dogs, have been brought in from Udhampur and Doda to aid the operation. A massive manhunt is currently underway, though no fresh contact has been made with the terrorists.
