Train services resume in Jammu following heavy rains
JAMMU, August 27: Train services in Jammu resumed today after a day-long suspension caused by heavy rainfall that has lashed the region.
Officials confirmed that six trains are scheduled to depart today, restoring connectivity for travelers.
On Tuesday, Northern Railway had announced the cancellation of 22 trains and the short-termination of 27 others due to the severe weather. The decision impacted incoming and outgoing services at Jammu and Katra railway stations.
According to a railway official, the restored services include three trains that were previously canceled and three that had been short-terminated. Among the trains scheduled to leave from Jammu are the Jammu Tawi-Kamakhya Express, Jammu-Sambalpur, Jammu-Ambedkar Nagar, Jammu-Varanasi, Jammu-Bandra, and Jammu-Chhapra.
The Jammu region has been experiencing its heaviest rainfall in decades, with Jammu city alone recording over 380 mm of rain in less than 38 hours. The relentless downpour has resulted in widespread flooding, landslides, and damage to bridges and roads, forcing many residents to evacuate to safer areas.
While most services were impacted, officials noted that rail traffic on the Katra-Srinagar stretch remained operational.
