Govt Committed to Engaging Stakeholders on Statehood Demand: J&K LG
Jammu, March 3: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today reaffirmed the government’s dedication to addressing the statehood aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the first Budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in seven years, Sinha emphasized that the session was not just a legislative exercise but a demonstration of the government’s commitment to good governance, transparency, and inclusive development.
“One of the key aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir is the restoration of full statehood. My government remains resolute in addressing this demand,” he stated.
Acknowledging the emotional and political importance of the issue, Sinha assured that the government is actively engaging with all stakeholders to work toward this goal.
He highlighted the historic nature of the current budget, being the first in seven years to be presented by an elected government in Jammu and Kashmir. “This budget represents the power of the people, prepared by their elected representatives,” he said.
Sinha further stressed that the document is not just a financial plan but a reflection of the collective aspirations of the people for a better future. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring peace, prosperity, and development in the region.
Despite challenges, he noted, the economy of Jammu and Kashmir has shown significant growth, and efforts are ongoing to make the Union Territory a progressive economic hub.
This session marks the second Assembly meeting since the formation of the NC-led government in Jammu and Kashmir. The Assembly previously convened in Srinagar from November 4 to 8 last year, just 20 days after the new government took office.
The developments come after the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370 in August 2019, which led to its reorganization into two Union Territories—Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
