3 militants killed in an encounter in Kishtwar
Jammu, Apr 12: Security forces have killed three militants and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during an ongoing encounter in a forest area of Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
Addressing a joint press conference, Brigadier JBS Rathi of the 5 Sector Assam Rifles and DIG, Kishtwar-Doda-Ramban Range Shridhar Patil confirmed the deaths of three militants and recoveries of arms cache today.
The operation, initiated on April 9 in Naidgam forest area of Chatroo in district Kishtwar following intelligence reports, involved a joint effort by the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Brigadier Rathi said.
“One militant was neutralized on April 11 and two today, amidst challenging terrain and weather conditions,” Brigadier Rathi stated. Security forces also recovered arms cache included an AK rifle and an M4 rifle, among other items.
The identities of the deceased militants are currently under investigation, he said.
DIG Patil emphasized that the area remains under a strict security cordon, with search operations ongoing. “The operation is being conducted in phases to ensure complete clearance and the safety of our personnel,” he said.
“This is part of a broader strategy to combat militant activity in the region,” he added.
Security forces have intensified surveillance across Kishtwar, Doda, and Udhampur districts, utilizing advanced technologies like drones, facial recognition, and vehicle scanners to detect and prevent infiltration. Officials urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
